Chesterfield County School District's Academic Bowl competition was begun 19 years ago to provide a showcase for the academic knowledge and skills of the students in the district's four high schools.
Each high school competes in six matches - one home and one away match with the other three high schools beginning the first Monday in November of each year and continuing for six weeks. Matches consist of five rounds - Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and General Knowledge. Students may compete on one or more of these teams.
The season culminates in an annual awards dinner in December with recognition for an overall winner as well as teams earning the most points in each subject area. A match pits the adult coaches and coordinators against the students with questions drawn from a variety of subject areas. Also, two members from each school's squad are selected for an All-District Academic Bowl team and recognized with individual plaques at the annual awards dinners.
