Community - Chesterfield is located along South Carolina Highway 9 in the north central portion of the county and is the seat of Chesterfield County. The town is located 60 miles southeast of Charlotte, N.C., and 80 miles northeast of Columbia, S.C. Most residents find employment in agriculture, government, or industry in this basically rural community.
Curricular Programs - The Alternative School serves both regular and exceptional education students from all areas of the district. Course offerings include English, Soclal Studies, Science, Math, Agriculture and Computer Technology. Support courses are also offered in Conflict Resolution, Physical Education, Art, Consumer Education
Student/Teacher Ratio - The facility in which the Alternative School is housed will accommodate up to 50 students. The student/teacher ratio is 10-1. The standard class size is 10-15 students. The staff includes five certified teachers and instructional aides.
Schedule - The school day for students runs from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. The school operates on a modified block schedule.
Mission - The Alternative School is intended to be a
program that:
· provides a nurturing, yet demanding, service of instruction;
· provides on-going academic instruction;
· provides supportive academic and social counseling; and
· improves student behaviors to the degree that the student
will be able to return to the regular school site for instruction.
