" Where Dreams Become Reality "

 New  Heights  Middle  School

Mr. Larry Stinson, Principal

New Heights Middle School is truly the most rewarding Principalship I have ever held.  When I came here in June 2007, many people gave me nothing but negative and disparaging remarks about the reputation of the students.  I have found during my tenure here that nothing could be farther from the truth.  There are, of course, the daily challenges that present themselves and the need to be persistent in the solution of problems is ongoing.  The staff members have embraced every initiative we have undertaken.  I personally believe we have made great strides and the groundwork for success in future years has been laid.

We are making a special effort to embrace the family this year.  We have planned several family nights that will give helpful hints as to how to become better involved as a parent in the educational process. The watchword for all of us is "engagement".  Simply put, we want to present NHMS as a place where people are welcomed and treated as stakeholders in the overall effort.  We have advertised school office hours as 6AM to 6PM.  The reason for these unusual hours is to make ourselves available in the event of anything from an emergency to a simple question as to events that may have occurred during the day.  We certainly hope that families will avail themselves of the opportunity to seek answers for any problem that may need a solution.   I can assure you that your concerns will always be addressed in a forthright manner with no exceptions.

The students here are unique to any that I have worked with in my 35 years of public education and I have concern for each of them.  It is important for me to know them by name and be able to converse with them openly about their individual academic and social situations.  As they leave New Heights I want them to have memories of a place that truly cared and took the time to treat them as unique and special.  There is always the possibility of finding the good in each one.  Clearly our work is challenging but I consider this the opportunity of a lifetime and would not trade places with anyone.  Please join me in the movement up the ladder to our ultimate goal of making this one of the finest schools anywhere.  I have just enough faith to believe that it can be done.  God bless each of you as you seek to determine how you might help us to be all that we can be!

Warmest Regards,

Larry Stinson
