Welcome to Your Media Center

Here at McBee High School, we are very proud of our new Media Center. Students and staff are welcome to use and to enjoy the facility. The Media Center is tastefully decorated and provides an environment conducive to reading and learning. The faculty and administration of McBee High School believes that students should become lifelong readers.

There are certain things according to the ALA (American Library Association) that students must have to become lifelong readers:

access to current, quality, high interest, and extensive collection of books and other print materials in their library media centers.

contact with adults who read regularly and widely and who serve as positive reading role models.

certified school library media specialists and teachers who demonstrate their enthusiasm for reading by reading aloud and book-talking.

time during the school day dedicated to reading for pleasure, information, and exploration.

opportunities specifically designed to engage young people in reading.

schools that create an environment where independent reading is valued, promoted, and encouraged.

opportunities that involve caregivers, parents, and other family members in reading.

Here at the McBee High School Media Center, we believe that we are meeting these criteria with our library collection; with our Silent Sustained Reading Program; with our reading aloud and book-talking program; with our flexible scheduling; with our AR program, which includes Movie Day and Party Months; and with our Parent Involvement Activities throughout the year. Please come visit the Media Center and begin your journey as a lifelong reader.
