About Your Media Specialist
Hello, my name is Debbie F. Johnson. I have been teaching at McBee High School for 33 years. For 25 years I taught English from grades 7 to 12. I graduated from Frances Marion University with a BA in English and from USC with a MAT in English. I enjoyed my teaching experiences, but in 2000, I decided to change my career. When the opening came, I applied for the position of Media Specialist. To become a Media Specialist, I returned to graduate school and got a Masters in Library and Information Science. Working full-time and going to school part-time was tough, and it took me three years to get my degree. But I am now very proud of my certification as a school library media specialist. I enjoy finding new books and encouraging our students to read more. The AR program has grown under my supervision, and we have test scores that prove that reading more is helping our students on standardized tests. I also enjoy decorating the Media Center, and I hope our students find it inviting and comfortable.
At home, I have quite a menagerie. I have 3 dogs ( Maggie, Biscuit , and Earl Grey- all rescue dogs), about 30 fish, 6 cows, and 2 horses (Thunder and Jasmine). I also keep a friend's thoroughbred, Chance. We lost our dog Sweetie this summer after having had her for 14 years. She was the love of my life, and I miss her terribly still. I enjoy showing my horses in local horse shows and have quite a few ribbons to show for our efforts. I also have quite a few bruises to show for our efforts as well. One of my cows is named Josephine, and another is named Frodo Baggins (from the Lord of the Rings). I also enjoy working in my yards and raising flowers of all types. I am almost always outside whenever I am at home, playing with the animals, working in the flower beds, or feeding animals.
I am married to Mike Johnson. We have been married for 36 years. He is a wonderful man who helps me with all of my hobbies. We have two grown children, Lori and Michael. Michael is married to Brandi (Parker), and Lori is married to Shon Rivers. So I guess you could say, we have four grown children. No grandchildren yet, but we are hoping.
