McBee Wins $25,000!

We would like to thank Nestlè and The Megan Mullally Show for sponsoring the Nestlè Essay Contest! We would also like to thank the community for supporting the bake sale, the teachers for allowing the students to write the essays, and the students for writing such creative essays!

MES Chosen as FINALIST!

The "Cooking with Palmetto Pride" bake sale was a huge success, raising $5,500! After the bake sale, Dr. Nutt received a phone call informing the school that we had been chosen as a finalist in the Nestle Essay Contest. This feat could not have been accomplished without the support of the entire community! MES would like to thank everyone for their support!

Essay Contest

Several students at McBee Elementary School wrote essays describing why reading is important to them. Fourteen of the essays were selected and entered in an essay contest sponsored by Nestle. McBee Elementary was selected as one of four schools across the nation as semi-finalists in the contest. To be selected as a finalist, the school must hold a bake sale. Every item sold at the bake sale must be made from scratch and contain Nestle Toll House Morsels. The two schools that raise the most money from the bake sales will be selected as finalists. The grand prize is $25,000 for the school’s library and the runner-up prize is $10,000 for the school’s library. Please support our school by attending the bake sale on Thursday, November 2, 2006 from 2:15 to 4:15.

Parents will be receiving information about donating baked goods or volunteering at the bake sale soon.      Please check your child's book bag!

Science Activity

On Friday, September 29th, Mrs. Byrd's and Mrs. Huggins' classrooms use the outdoor shelter to do several science activities. The students had studied weathering and the water cycle in the classroom, but on Friday, they actually got to participate in an activity that demonstrated both. After completing the activities, the students returned to the classrooms, where they wrote and illustrated what they had observed.

PTA Skating Party

Mrs. Logan's 1st grade class was treated to a skating party and seemed to have a great time! Her class received this treat because they had the most parents present at the last PTA meeting. Thanks to all the parents for attending the meeting and congratulations to Mrs. Logan's class.
