Barbara Garris

3rd Grade Teacher

Biography:  I am Barbara Board Garris. I am married to Ed Garris, and we have two adult children, a son, Eric who lives in Kentucky, and a daughter, Ellen Caldwel, who lives in Rock Hill. We have three grandchildren, two boys and one girl.

I graduated from Cheraw High School, attended Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College, Coker College, and graduated from Francis Marion University with a degree in Elementary Education. I received my Master's in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion. I earned the thirty hours above a Master's from Converse College, University of South Carolina and Winthrop University. In the 1999-2000 school year, I was certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for excellence in teaching to the national standards. I have represented Edwards as Teacher of the Year and as Chesterfield County's Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year.

I began my teaching career in 1981 at Edwards, having been a legal secretary prior to that time. I have taught fourth grade, second grade, a combination third and fourth grade, and for the past several years, have been a third grade teacher.
