CHESTERFIELD-RUBY MIDDLE SCHOOL

POLICIES

Tardiness

Students are expected to be prompt.  Tardiness to class will result in an assignment to lunch detention.  Chronic tardiness will result in a discipline referral to school administration.

Attendance

Homeroom teachers will notify the principal's office of any student confined in a hospital, giving the name of the hospital and room number, if known.  A visit to the student while in the hospital would also be in keeping with good public relations as would a visit to anyone confined with a prolonged illness.

Student Dress Code

1. Neatness and cleanliness are expected of students at all times.
2. Clothing items must fit properly. Excessively small-fitting or large fitting clothing items are not
permitted.
3. No midriff tops, halter tops, revealing sundresses, tube tops, tank shirts or clothing that excessively
reveals parts of the body will be worn.
4. No hats or sunglasses will be worn in the building.
5. All pants/shorts will be worn at the waist (no sagging).
6. All clothing (shorts, skirts, etc.) must be worn at fingertip length or below with arms extended.
7. No unfastened clothes or belts are allowed.
8. No clothing displaying profane language or pictures inappropriate for school are allowed.
9. No clothing promoting the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products is allowed.
10. All other items that may be considered inappropriate for school will be determined by the
administration.

Homework

1.  Homework should be used for reinforcement, practice, and review of original learning, or to introduce background information for classroom discussion.  Homework should not be used to teach new concepts, not yet introduced in class.  Assignments should always be relevant to previous learning.

2.  Homework guidelines will be presented to students at the beginning of the school year.

3.  Teachers should keep in mind that students have four other courses.  Weekend homework should be kept to a minimum.

4.  Homework will be evaluated and returned within a reasonable amount of time.

5.  Completion or non-completion of homework assignments will affect report card grades.

6.  Parents will be notified if students habitually neglect homework.

Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School policies reflect the policies that are developed and placed into effect by the elected members of the Chesterfield County School District Board of Education.
