Chesterfield High School has
been a member of the High Schools That Work (HSTW) network since
1993. HSTW is the largest and oldest of the Southern Regional
Education Board's seven school-improvement initiatives for high school
and middle grades leaders and teachers. More than 1,000 HSTW
sites in 31 states are using HSTW framework of goals and key
practices to raise student achievement. This comprehensive
school-improvement effort is based on the implementation of a series of
curriculum and instructional changes that are associated with greater
student achievement. In time, these changes can transform a
low-performing school into a high-performing school, regardless of
students' socioeconomic and racial backgrounds.
Last summer, at the Annual HSTW Summer Conference in
Nashville, Chesterfield High School was honored as a Gold Award
winner. This award was based on their implementation of the HSTW
program and for their improvement in test scores on the HSTW
Assessment. Only seventeen schools in the nation received this
prestigious award at this conference which was attended by over 8,000 educators
from 31 states.
The coordinator of the HSTW program at CHS is
Sarah Jane Henderson. For more information about this initiative,
