Cheraw Primary School

Library Policy and Permission

Form

Dear Parents:

Your child will visit the school library/media center each week. This experience is provided to enrich and support the curriculum; to instill in each child a love for reading so to make him/her a lifetime reader; and to provide opportunities to enable each child to develop to his/her fullest potential.

POLICY

The child who checks out a book is responsible for its care and its return.

If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, it must be paid for. If there is slight damage, a fine will be charged.

Charges:      New Books-2 years - Full Price
3 years and older -     Half of original price – ($5.00 minimum)
Minor damage -         .50 to $1.00 – this may vary according to amount of damage and age of book.

Permission forms must be signed by a parent or guardian before a child is allowed to check books out.

We strive to help each child know basic rules for care and responsibility. We ask parents to help reinforce this by encouraging the child in the following ways:

Know when his/her library day is. Encourage your child to return books on time.
Expect the child to bring home new books each week. Question the child if he/she isn’t bringing home new books weekly.
Talk to your child about book care.
Find a safe place to keep the books – a place away from younger children and pets – a place that will be easy to remember when its time to return the book.
Set apart a time each day to read to and with your child.

During the school year, there will be special events and reading programs. I look forward to working with your child and welcome your suggestions.

My child has permission to check out library books. I understand that if books are lost or damaged, a fee will be charged. The fee must be paid before other books are checked out unless I have communicated with the media specialist about a particular problem. All books must be returned or paid for before a final report card is given.
