The mission of Cheraw Intermediate School is to prepare each student to be a productive citizen in a global society, using progressive educational practices along with community support thus allowing each individual to achieve his/her highest potential. |

| Enrollment - 610 Teachers and Administrators - 49 Support Staff - 20 Curricular Programs - Components of the Four Blocks Model and Write from the Beginning are used to implement a literature-based reading and writing program. Cooperative learning and learning styles strategies are used to support the integrated curriculum used in all regular classrooms. Third grade classes are self-contained. Fourth and fifth grade classes are teamed. Hands-on activities, exploration, and manipulatives are a daily part of science and math. Gifted and talented students are offered enrichment classes each week. Innovative Programs - Corrective Reading (decoding and comprehension), Corrective Math, and/or Edmark are used in the LD resource, LD self-contained and EMD classes. A school-wide reading incentive program, Accelerated Reader, rewards students and teachers with incentives when a certain level is reached. Volunteers provide reading services to area primary/elementary students. Students have access to the Internet along with weekly computer training and instruction through our CCC Labs. Family Math and AIMS (Activities Integrating Math and Science) increase student opportunity for math and science exploration. Multicultural activities increase student awareness and appreciation for other cultures. Student/Teacher Ratio - Ranges from 18:1 to 21:1.volumes Special Services - Special education classes for the learning disabled, visually/hearing impaired, and mentally disabled are provided and focus on transition and independent living skills. Speech, orientation, mobility services, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are provided weekly. Counseling, psychological testing and a school nurse are available. Athletic Activities - Physical education is provided for all students. Students take part in Field Day activities and Special Olympics annually. Library/Media Center - The fully automated media center offers a variety of computerized research databases, circulation, on-line catalog, and Internet access. Accelerated Reader, Math Finder, Electronic Encyclopedia, and over 20,000 volumes are available to the students. Accreditation - Cheraw Intermediate School is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the South Carolina Department of Education. All teachers are certified. Parent Participation - Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the school. Many parents and community friends volunteer on a regular basis in the classrooms and for school functions. Parents may visit in the school at any time. The Parent-Teacher Organization meets throughout the year and sponsors several student activities. Extracurricular Programs - Students produce and anchor the morning news, Smoke Signals, a short television program about the school happenings each day. Students have the opportunity to take part in field trips, Math Olympics, Math Super Stars, Safety Patrol, Student Government, Book Bowl, D.A.R.E., Computer Club, Chorus, All-County Chorus . Chorus presents productions during the year for the parents, schools, and community. An after school program with homework assistance is available for working parents. |
